Abstract

823,723. Weather hoods for boats. THOMSON Ltd., W. G. Sept. 9, 1957 [Sept. 12, 1956], No. 27825/56. Class 113. A ship's lifeboat has one or more canopies 30 and each canopy is secured along its lower edge to the gunwale and supported by a pair of hoop sticks 7, 8 pivoted at 12 to the boat. Pivoted to the boat at 13, are frame members 9 which are pivoted to, or detachable from, transverse frame members 14 carried by a tee-piece 15 on a stanchion 16 pivoted at 19 to the keel : the stanchion may be pivoted and kept rigid by a sleeve 17. Bracing members 20 are hinged to the frame members 9 and attached to eyes on the hoop stick 8 ; storm stays 22 are attached to the frame member 9 and in addition rigid stays 280 may be used. The canopy and supporting members are collapsible adjacent the gunwale. An extension shield 31 is attached to the gunwale and the members 9 and 20 and may be rolled back to allow erection of masts or the use of lifting and lowering gear. Windows 11, openings 29 for oars, and an opening for the tiller 28 are provided.
