Abstract

910,769. Creels. DEERING MILLEKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. April 14, 1959 (April 14, 1958], No. 12670/59. Class 120 (2). An enclosure for a yarn package of circular section to prevent snarling during unwinding comprises a plurality of filaments under tension and all at an annular skew angle to the axis of the enclosure and constituting a cage serving to constrict the yarn while the diameter of the package decreases, the filaments being engaged by a member which is angularly adjustable about the axis to adjust the angle of inclination of the filaments. The filaments are carried by plates 17, 25 in a frame composed of legs 15a connected by webs 15b, 15c ; they are secured in apertures in the upper plate and pass through apertures in the lower plate and terminate in weighting-rings 33. Secured to the lower plate 17 is a block 21 with a frustoconical part 21a. The package is inserted between adjacent filaments and slipped over the part 21a to be held by the ring 25 which is pressed upwardly by a spring 23 around the block 21 into engagement with the bottom of the core, an annulus of fur 27 preventing the thread from being trapped. The plate 17 and the filaments can be rotated to the desired angular position by a nut 35 so that the filaments form a constricting helix about the periphery of the package. The thread is withdrawn through an aperture 39 in the nut 35.
