Abstract

A device for forming a cake of yarn, esp. for dyeing, has (a) a plate rotating on a vertical axis for feeding in the yarn, on the upper side of which a guide tube for the yarn to form the cake is positioned, whilst on its underside in a recess, a disc is free to rotate; (b) feed rollers positioned on the plate which draw the thread from the guide tube and pass it through a distributor bore close to the edge of the plate; (c) a circular support plate for the yarn cake facing the underside of plate and displaceable axially in a cylindrical container with which it rotates on an axis off-set to that of the feeder plate; and (d) a spiral spring carrying a frame and the plate supporting the yarn cake, which as its weight increases compresses the spring progressively. The weight of the yarn package produced is raised from 2kg to 7-8kg. The winding pattern is such that in addition to the passage through the centre, there are cavities between the threads of the separate layers giving free access to the dye liquor.
