Abstract
906,626. Reservoir pens. PERKIN-ELMER CORPORATION. July 28, 1960 [July 29, 1959], No. 26327/60. Class 146 (3). A pen for a recording instrument comprises an ink reservoir 10 open to the atmosphere and communicating with a chamber 16 leading to a tubular nib 22 in the bore of which is mounted a protruding wire 24 capable of resilient longitudinal movement in relation to the nib and defining with the tubular wall of the nib a capillary passage for the flow of ink. The reservoir 10 communicates with the atmosphere through capillary vents 20 and with the chamber 16 through a tube 18 which may be of capillary dimension. The inner end of the wire 24 is bent so as to bear resiliently against the inner wall of the chamber 16. As ink flows out through the nib a partial vacuum is created in the chamber 16 whereby ink is sucked out of the reservoir through the tube 18. The movement of the wire within the nib prevents the latter from becoming clogged.
