Abstract
906,441. Bed-settees. WINICK, J. I., and WINICK, M. Oct. 16, 1959 [Oct. 24, 1958], No. 34135/58. Class 52 (2). In a bed-settee in which a pivot between the seat and back of the settee is guided horizontally through a roller and slot connection with the main supporting frame, the seat and back are additionally each supported by links which constrain the rollers to traverse the slots during conversion. As shown, the pivotal connection 10 between the seat frame 4 and the back frame 5 is provided with a roller 11 running in a slot 12 in plate 13 and hinge arms 8 and 9 are secured to the frames 4 and 5 and pivotally connected to plate 13 by means of links 14 and 15. Conversion is initiated by pulling the seat forward, the front of the seat accordingly tilting up until link 14 has passed through the vertical and the back and seat subsequently both descending to the common horizontal plane of side members 2, 3 as pin 10 rides to the far end of slot 12 and spring 18 is tensioned by link 14. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), seat frame 4 is pivotally connected to arm 8. In another form (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), for a permanently upholstered settee, the pivotal connection between the frames 4 and 5 lies above their common horizontal plane and the tension spring 18 is arranged to act on an extension of link 15. According to the Provisional Specification, links 14 and 15 are provided with pins engaging arcuate slots in plate 13 to limit the movement of the links.
