Abstract
A refractory composition comprises a mixture of a finely divided stabilized hydraulically setting sintered dolomite and 35% to 95% by weight of carbon as petroleum, coke, graphite, carbon or mixture of these, water being added to the mixture which is then allowed to set. The stabilized dolomite is formed by treating dolomite with excess silicic acid with or without Cr2 O3 or ZrO2 fining and crushing. The refractory mixture may also contain calcined MgO, ZrO2 and chrome ore and the constituents may be powdered or granular.
