Abstract
1,145,340. Magnesia refractory. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE A.G. 29 June, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 29251/66. Headings C1A and C1J. Magnesia sinter containing at least 85% MgO and not more than 6% Fe 2 O 3 and having a mean periclase crystal diameter of at least 60 Á is made from crystalline raw magnesia, or from a product obtained from such by a preliminary burning, by burning in a shaft kiln at a temperature of at least 1900‹ C. attained by the supply of oxygen. The sinter is used, optionally with additions such as up to 30% chromite, either loose as ramming composition or as bricks, made from the sized sinter and bonded with aqueous sulphuric acid. The bricks may be burnt and may be impregnated with a liquid carbon carrier such as coal tar which decomposes when heated to carbon.
