Abstract

904,028. Purifying gas. HANDTE, S. Nov. 16, 1959, No. 38804/59. Addition to 896,233. Class 55 (2). A dust separator comprises a main purifier 1 and a preliminary purifier 2 disposed upstream of the main purifier, each of the purifiers comprising a cylindrical vessel which contains a water sump 5 and to which gas to be purified is fed tangentially through inlets 9, 11, the main purifier also comprising an upwardly-directed suction-pipe 13 widening by way of an intermediate funnel 14 to form a cylindrical portion of larger diameter arranged axially within the vessel, a gas-guiding screw 16 which is arranged above the intermediate funnel within the cylindrical portion and which guides or deflects water-laden gas flowing upward axially within the suction pipe and imparts a gyratory movement thereto, and a mechanically acting separating device 17 provided in the path of the gas to be purified as a last purifying stage before an outlet from the main purifier. A mechanically acting separating device is defined as any type of filter and also deflector plates, impingement or baffle plates. Specification 902,949 also is referred to.
