Abstract

896,824. Centrifugal separators. DUCON CO. Inc. March 22, 1960 [April 2, 1959], No. 10172/60. Class 23. [Also in Group XII] A gas-scrubber comprises a cylindrical chamber 12 with a gas outlet 74 and a gas inlet 30 which discharges the gas to be scrubbed tangentially into chamber 12, a plate 42 extending obliquely across the gas inlet 30 and adjustably mounted therein to vary the size of the opening through which the incoming gas passes and a spray nozzle 60 arranged to spray liquid against the plate 42 so that finely atomised liquid is discharged into the gas passing through the opening, the liquid being separated together with suspended impurities in the chamber 12 and clean gas withdrawn through the outlet 74. The gas outlet 74 has connected thereto a conduit 70 extending into the chamber 12 through a cover 78 which fits over the upper end of the chamber 12 as shown forming a chamber 82 with a drain 88 into which any liquid rising to the top of the chamber 12 can pass. The lower portion of the chamber 12 is arranged as a sludge collector and has a conical baffle 62 positioned below the tangential inlet for incoming gas. The plate 42 may have a curved edge 90 as shown in Fig. 5.
