Abstract
1,108,869. Centrifugal separators. SIEMENS A.G. 12 Jan., 1967 [15 Jan., 1966], No. 1799/67. Heading B2P. In an apparatus which separates dust particles from a gas and works on the potentialrotary flow principle described in Specification 933,224, the dust particles discharged into the annular space 8 between the crude gas inlet conduit 5 and the wall of the separating vessel 1 with a branch 7 of the potential circulating gas flow 3 is conveyed with that portion of the gas by means of a conduit 9 to a storage container 11, the conduit 9 extending in an oblique direction from the vessel 1 and opening into the container 11 also in an oblique direction so that a helical gas flow is set up in the container 11 effecting separation of the dust, the clear gas being discharged from the container 11 via a conduit 13 which opens radially as at 15 into the crude gas inlet conduit 5. The conduit 9 extends from the bottom of the vessel 1 or from the side thereof tangentially to, or tangentially to an imaginary circle concentric with and of smaller radius than that of, the vessel side wall and opens into either the side wall, Fig. 1, or the top of the container 11, Fig. 2, in the same manner. To prevent particles to be separated from flowing out of the container 11 with the gas, a hollow conical member 16, Fig. 1, a circular plate 18. Fig. 2. or a drop-shaped solid member (20), Fig. 3 (not shown) is provided upstream of the opening 14 communicating with the conduit 13. A fan 21 may be installed in the conduit 13 to regulate the pressure and maintain a stable flow therein. An injector, as shown in dotted lines, may be provided in the inlet conduit 5 to facilitate the introduction of the gas from the conduit 13. To prevent the dust laden gas entering the container 11 from pouring directly into the opening 14, an annular baffle plate 17, Fig. 2. may be provided.
