Abstract

1, 048, 873. Centrifugal separators. SULZER BROS. Ltd. Jan. 28, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963], No. 3677/64. Heading B2P. A two-stage centrifuge for separating solid and liquid particles from gas comprises a cylindrical casing 10 as incorporating two approximately circular concentric separating stages 1, A defined by a partition 11 which extends into a collecting chamber 7 below the separating stages to divide it into two parts 7a, 7b associated respectively with the stages 1, 4. The stage 4 is bounded internally by a tube 12 closed at the bottom by a plate 14 which extends towards the partition 11 to define an annular gap 15 for the passage of separated particles. The tube 12 at its upper end defines with the wall of the outlet 5 an annular gap 13 for the exit of purified gas, the flow of which is straightened by guide plates 6. When the centrifuge functions as a water separator, the oxide gas enters stage 1 at 2 and after one revolution during which the coarse water particles are separated the gas passes through an inlet 3 into the stage 4 where the fine particles are separated, the gas leaving at 5. The water accumulates in the collecting chamber in which the water level is controlled by an extraction pump 8. The lower part of the partition 11 may converge or diverge downwardly.
