Abstract

884,689. Centrifugal separators. SEPARATOR A. B. April 1, 1960 [April 3, 1959], No. 11570/60. Class 23. In a separator in which a liquid component is discharged by means of a skimming device, the radial position of the device is dependent upon the pressure of the discharging liquid component. In the separator shown the lighter component is discharged over a weir 11, and the heavier component passes through tubes 6 into a discharge chamber 7 containing the skimming tube 14. The tube 14 carries a piston 16 and is slidable in a cylinder 13 in communication with an outlet pipe 12 for the heavier component. The pressure on the piston is opposed by a spring 18. The tube 14 may have a surface 21 or vanes 22 which are inclined to the surface of the liquid in the chamber 7 so that the action of this spring is opposed or assisted. A valve is incorporated in the pipe 12.
