Abstract
1,187,057. Centrifugal separators. S. CUCCOLINI. 21 April, 1967 [21 April, 1966], No. 18578/67. Heading B2P. In a centrifuge for treating a mixture of solids and liquid or a mixture of liquids of different specific gravities, the rotor 1 has openings 10 which are normally closed by a slide valve 7 acted upon by centrifugal pressure generated in a liquid, e.g. oil, in a chamber 5 rotating with the rotor, and which are opened for the discharge of a component by introducing compressed air in a chamber 11 to overcome the closing action of the liquid, the liquid in the chamber 5 being prevented by a sealing ring 16 from entering the air chamber and, by the chamber 5 being mounted below the air chamber 11, from coming into contact with the mixture being treated and with the component discharging from the openings 10. The liquid may be introduced into the chamber 5, while the rotor is rotating or at rest, by means of a syringe via a pipe 17, a chamber 18 and passages 19. Any liquid leaking from the chamber 5 past a sealing ring 6 is collected in a chamber 20. A screwed stopper 23 permits the level of the liquid in the chamber 5 to be adjusted. The compressed air is introduced into the chamber 11 through a bore in the rotor shaft 2 and through one or more passages 12. '
