Abstract

777,153. Centrifugal separators. WESTFALIA SEPARATOR AKT.-GES. Jan. 4, 1955 [March 13, 1954], No. 221/55. Class 23 In a separator, in which sludge outlets 7 are closed by a piston 4, liquid supplied by a duct 8 serves both to close a valve 12 sealing the piston operating chamber 14 and to supply the chamber. Liquid from the duct first passes through channels 9, 10 to close the valve, some liquid being continuously discharged through a vent 15. After the valve is closed the liquid fills the chamber to lower the piston and close the outlets, surplus liquid discharging through an overflow outlet 17. To open the outlets 7 the liquid supply through the duct is shut-off, liquid in the channels 9, 10 discharging through the vent to permit the pressure of the liquid in the chamber to open the valve. Opening of the valve causes the liquid in the chamber to drain through a duct 19, and permits the piston to be lifted by the sludge pressure to open the outlets. The piston may be housed in the lower part of the separator.
