Abstract

616,442. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Sept. 2, 1946, No. 26357. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1945. [Class 23] A rotating bowl 1, having sludge-discharging holes 24, which are periodically opened by the lowering of a slide-valve 6, is provided with packing 10 between a flange 7 and a bowl part 4 so that chambers 11, 12 containing fluid for regulating the valve position are isolated from each other. When the ports 24 are to be uncovered liquid is forced up a hollow spindle 13 into a chamber 14 and only a small quantity passes through a passage 17 to the chamber 15. Most of the liquid fills chambers 18 and 11, some escaping through a small hole 19, to cause flange 7 to be forced downwards. Liquid is discharged from the chamber 12 through a channel 16. The packing elements 9, 10 may comprise one or more rings of metal or other material. Packing 22, which may be rubber, is also provided to prevent sludge moving downwards. The packing 22 may be under internal liquid pressure. Before the bowl is emptied of sludge, its liquid content is discharged through outlets 23.
