Abstract

667,963. Centrifugal-separators. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1949 [Jan. 24, 1949], No. 1922/49. Class 23 In a separator for breaking down froth comprising a vessel 30, a tangential inlet 31 at one end of the vessel an axial gas outlet 32 extending inwardly from the end of the vessel past the inlet to form a narrow unobstructed annular duct, a liquid outlet 35 at the other end of the vessel, and radial guide-vanes 34 between the outlets at or near the wall of the vessel, the wall of the vessel between the inlet and the vanes is unobstructed, and the vanes are parallel to the flow of separated liquid at their entry ends and merge into axial planes at their outlet ends. A cone 36 having baffles 37, 38 is supported by the vanes. Liquid may be supplied near the inlet to increase the mobility of the froth. The Provisional Specification states that the cone may be solid or closed, and hat a shallow ring concentric with the gas outlet may depend from the end wall of the vessel adjacent the inlet.
