Abstract
713,670. Centrifugal separators. INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, DIRECTOR OF. Oct. 10, 1951 [Oct. 10, 1950],No. 23595/51. Class 23 A centrifugal dust separator comprises a separating chamber a, gas outlet c, a member e within the chamber having a tapered upper part and a cylindrical lower part, and an annular passage f between the member and the wall of the chamber leading dust from the chamber to an annular collection chamber l which extends radially from the wall of the chamber. The member e may be rotary and be provided with vanes to assist the discharge of dust. The gas outlet has tangential inlet slots d, and in the construction shown in Fig. 2 a volute-chamber g for the final discharge of gas. In a modification Fig. 4 (not shown) the gas discharges through an annular slot in the top plate of the separator directly to a volute-chamber. The separator inlet b is tangential but in a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) the separator has an axial inlet surrounding the gas outlet which is provided with straightening vanes. The separator may be constructed from heat or chemical-resistant material such as a ceramic, and it may be cooled or insulated from heat losses.
