Abstract

406,036. Centrifugal gas - cleaners. CHELTNAM, C. H. W., 188, Adelaide Road, Brockley, London. Aug. 19, 1932, No. 23336. [Class 23.] A centrifugal gas-cleaning apparatus has a primary separator with one or more tangential inlets and one or more subsidiary separators disposed coaxially beneath it ; the lower wall of each superior separator meets the upper wall of its immediate subsidiary at an external angle of less than 180 degrees. A division plate is arranged between successive separators and an annular outlet is provided for the clean gas. The primary separator shown in Fig. 1 has a cylindrical head 1 and a body 5 in the form of an inverted conic frustum. The cap 3 may be flat or slightly coned, and the tangential inlet may be circular or square. The secondary separator consists of cylindrical and conical parts 7, 9, and the tertiary separator of similar parts 11, 12. The conical parts 5, 9 meet the parts 7, 11 at an external angle of less than 180‹ and may project inside them as shown by the dotted lines 6, 10. The lower portion 12 of the tertiary separator may terminate at its junction with the dust discharge pipe 14 or may extend inside it. Coned plates 15, 17 with central holes 16, 18 are secured to the walls by brackets 19 ; the whirling gas passes from one separator to another through the annular gaps round the plates. The clean gas outlet consists of an outer casing 25 in the form of an inverted conic frustum, and a liner 36 in the form of a cylinder. A casing 26 surrounds the lower part of the frustum 25, and the cylinder 36 is closed by the cone 37. The outlet is therefore annular and discharges into a scroll 34. The modification shown in Fig. 3 consists of a dual form of separator. The primary stage consists of the cylindrical and conical parts 1, 5 while the secondary stage consists of conical parts 7, 12 separated by the cylindrical part 8. A conical plate 15 is secured as shown by brackets 19. The outlet 25 has a liner 38 closed by cones 39, 41 at its ends, and has three or more vanes 32 arranged between the cone 41 and the outer wall, to diminish the whirling motion of the discharging gas. In a further modification, weather hoods are attached to the outlet tube and its liner. Specification 327,703, [Class 23, Centrifugal machines &c.], is referred to.
