Abstract

373,560. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR, 8, Fleminggatan, Stockholm. Dec. 9, 1931, No. 34174. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1930. [Class 23.] A centrifugal bowl has an inner chamber to which the liquid for treatment is fed, and an opening is provided in the wall of the chamber near the axis of rotation of the bowl to allow gases to escape. Liquid is fed from the pipe line 1 to the chamber 6 bounded by the wall 5 and connected to the separating chamber 8 of the bowl by channels 7. The cover 9 at the top of the wall 5 has an opening 10 through which any separated gas discharges into the chamber 15 with the lighter component of the liquid. If it is desirable to prevent the discharging gas from mixing with the liquid component, a funnel 23 is placed over the opening 10 and a cock 24 controls the discharge. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the opening 10 is normally closed by a spring- loaded valve 17, while in a further modification a float 21, Fig. 3, operates a slide valve 19. The float is thrown outwards into the liquid by centrifugal force, and as it moves outwards the area of the discharge outlet for the gas increases.
