Abstract

1,183,912. Centrifugal separator. SIEMENS A.G. 24 May, 1968 [27 Sept., 1967], No. 25060/68. Heading B2P. A helical-flow vortex separator for removing solid or liquid particles from a gas comprises a separating vessel 10, a purified gas outlet 13, an inlet conduit 1 for crude gas, a coaxial ring 3 of guide vanes for imparting a swirl to the crude gas in the conduit 1, an axial flow control member 4 for deflecting the crude gas from the central region of the conduit 1, and an outlet conduit 5 having its inlet opening downstream of the guide vanes 3 for removing from the central region of the conduit downstream of the control member 4 that portion of gas which has been purified as a result of the swirl imparted to the gas. The conduit 5 may discharge that portion of gas as pure gas or, as shown, may direct it as auxiliary gas to obliquely tangential gas nozzles 9 which open into the separating vessel 9 to create therein a helical flow system in the form of an external downwardly directed helical potential flow and an internal upwardly directed helical rotary flow whereby particles entering with the remainder of the crude gas through the conduit I are separated and discharged by the downwardly directed potential flow through the annular space between the exit end of the conduit 1 and the wall of the vessel 10. The purified gas outlet conduit 13 incorporates a fan 12 and a fan 11 may be provided in the conduit 5. A conduit 14 may be provided as shown in dotted lines to open in the vessel 10 upstream of the outlet conduit 13 to remove the substantially purified portion of the gas flowing in the axial region of the separating vessel 10. The conduit may feed the nozzles 9 as well as, or instead of, the conduit 5.
