Abstract
<PICT:0810753/III/1> In a separator 3 for removing gases from liquid, e.g. as in the manufacture of paper and cellulosic webs, an inlet pipe 1 distributes the liquid/gas mixture on to an umbrella-shaped deflector member 5 which conducts the liquids on to the lower walls of the separating chamber 4 where due to the large surface the gas is evolved from the liquid and the separated liquid is removed at outlet 12. The deflector member is offset eccentrically on the side opposite to the outlet so that there are no eddy currents produced by liquid falling into the pool of collected liquid near the outlet. Displaced air passes upwards through an opening 6 protected by a cap 7. In a modification (not shown) the deflector member may be extended in one direction towards the wall away from the outlet.
