Abstract

899,432. Ventilating buildings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and WOODS OF COLCHESTER Ltd. June 13, 1960 [June 12, 1959], No. 20251/59. Class 137 [Also in Group XI] A space-heater for heating two separate enclosures 1 and 2 comprises a casing 4 having an inlet 5 and outlet 7 associated with one enclosure 1 and an inlet 6 and outlet 8 associated with the other enclosure 2, a fan 13 for drawing air from the enclosures through the casing, a heater 14 for heating the air, inlet control means 16 defining a pair of variable orifices associated one with each inlet 5, 6, and outlet control means 17 defining a pair of variable orifices associated one with each outlet 7, 8. As shown, the casing 4 is mounted in a wall 3 separating a main room 1 from a subsidiary room 2 such as a hall. The control means 16 and 17 are rectangular sheet metal baffle plates connected through a linkage (Fig. 3 not shown) to a knob 31 for simultaneous rotation. In the position shown in dotted lines inlet and outlet apertures 6 and 8 are completely shut off so that withdrawal of cold air from and flow of hot air into the subsidiary room 2 are prevented, but the rotational movement of the plates 16 and 17 is so limited that apertures 5 and 7 cannot be completely shut off. Part of the heater 14 is controlled by a thermostat and part by a manual switch which is operated when high level heating is required. The thermostat and switch are both indicated at 15.
