Abstract
899,418. Winding filaments. AACHENGERRESHEIMER TEXTILGLAS GESELLSCHAFT GEVETEX. March 9, 1961 [March 12, 1960], No. 8619/61. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXIII] Filaments 5 of thermoplastic materials are attenuated and wound on to a cop 3 by first passing the filaments over a first rotatable spindle 11 carrying thread guiding means 7 and 9, and then on to the end 6 of a second rotatable spindle 2 carrying the cop 3. The spindle 2 is then set in motion to build up the necessary speed for correct attenuation, the unattenuated filaments fed to the device during this period being collected as a winding on the end 6 of the shaft 2. When the spindle 2 reaches the desired speed the spindle 11 is automatically rotated and reciprocated. Rotation of the spindle 11 causes screw-threads 7 to feed the filaments 5 on to a thread guide 9 whereupon further rotation and reciprocation results in the filaments being wound on the cop 3. The screw-threads 7 decrease in depth as they approach the guide 9. The guide 9 is joined by a guide wire, shown in chain-dotted lines, to a second guide 9<SP>1</SP>. As the spindle 11 rotates, the guide wire forces the filaments to the left where they are released and, by reason of the displacement of the winding machine in relation to a filament lubricating pad (not shown but situated above the machine), the filaments immediately fly back to the righthand end of the cop where they are again caught up by the guide 9. The reciprocation of the spindle 11 is such as to produce a filament package having sloping shoulders.
