Process for the manufacture of continuous threads from thermoplastic materials
and device for the implementation of this method
The present patent comprises a process for manufacturing continuous son from thermoplastic materials, in particular glass, in the form of fine son wound and simultaneously drawn by means of a rotating spindle with the interposition of a yarn guide.
In known methods of this type, the operator of the winder must grasp the bundle of drawn wires, which will be called the start of the wire, and place it on the edge or on the end of the spindle while doing, in the same way moment, start the winder. During the time it takes for the winder to reach the necessary drawing speed, the operator must let the wire or bundle of wires slide in his hand.
When normal drawing speed is reached, the winder thread guide kicks in. The operator therefore introduces the thread into the thread guide and the thread then winds on a cuff placed on the spindle. This process has many drawbacks. The operator must in each case spend a lot of time in the process described. As an operator normally serves a large number of machines, these times add up and ultimately are very important. To ensure continuous production, therefore, a fairly large number of operators must be employed; in other words, a single operator cannot service as many machines as would be desirable. The known process, which has just been described, is therefore uneconomic. Another drawback of the known method is that the operator is easily injured by letting the wire slip in his hand.
However, for this work, the operator cannot put on gloves which would reduce too much the necessary sensitivity of the hand. Another drawback of the known method is that the beginning of the wire, caught by the edge or the end of the spindle, is often quite large due to the initially low drawing speed and tends to jump during winding. And if the operator has to stay long enough in the immediate vicinity of the spindle, this shattering can often present dangers for him, because the particles of glass which then burst out can reach not only his hands but also his face.
The method of the present patent aims to eliminate the drawbacks described above, and it is characterized in that the beginning of the thread is placed on one end of the spindle and the latter is put in rotation while the thread guide provided. of an extension exceeding the end of the spindle remains stationary, the wire is placed on this extension to be guided and, when the spindle reaches its speed of rotation, the wire guide is set in motion, a helical thread performed on the extension then bringing the wire within reach of the yoke of the wire guide.
In this process, the operator only needs to place the start of the thread on the corresponding end of the spindle and engage the thread with the thread guide. He can then abandon the machine itself. All the drawbacks inherent in the known methods are thus avoided. Another advantage is that said process, by filling in the shortcomings of the personnel, makes it possible to obtain a safer and more regular product.
The patent also includes a device for implementing the above process. This device is characterized by a spindle with a smooth cylindrical end and carrying a bobbin, as well as by a thread guide provided with an extension extending beyond the end of the spindle and provided with an external thread guiding the thread and whose direction is such that a rotation of the yarn guide in its normal direction of rotation causes the yarn to move towards the yoke of the yarn guide.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device included in the patent.
Fig. 1 is a front view, in partial section, of the main parts of this device and,
fig. 2 is a view, on a smaller scale, in the direction of the arrow II of FIG. 1.
A spindle 2 is rotatably mounted on the housing of a winder 1. At the time of winding, the spindle 2 is fitted with a bobbin 3. At the end of the operation, a thread plate 4 will be wound on the spindle. bobbin 3. At the start of winding, the first part of thread 5 is wound on end 6 of spindle 2.
For this, the wire 5 is passed over a helical thread formed in a sleeve 8 constituting an extension of a wire guide 9-10 mounted on a pin 11.
When the thread guide 9-10 is working, it turns with the threaded sleeve 8 and the axis 11 in the direction of the arrow 12. At the same time, the thread guide, the sleeve 8 and the axis 11 move back and forth. until a position indicated in dotted lines in 9'-10 '.
The profile of the net is adapted to the cross section of the wire, preferably the bottom of the net is rounded.
The advantage of a rounded netting is that the wire does not get stuck like in a triangular profile netting. The correspondence of the profile of the net with the section of the wire can be done within relatively wide limits. It is therefore possible, without change, to handle several different wire sections with the same sleeve.
The extension formed by the sleeve 8 has a length such that, in each position of the thread guide, there is still at least one turn of the thread extending beyond the end of the spindle.
The advantage of this particular form of the device is that the thread guide does not have to be placed in a determined initial position when the thread is placed there.
On the contrary, he can keep the position he had at the previous spinning pass.
The thread depth is greater at the outer end of the extension and a gradual transition zone is provided to a shallower thread depth at the yoke end of the yarn guide.
The advantage of this arrangement is that when the wire slides along the outer end of the extension, its angular deviation is greater than when it slides along the end directed towards the yoke of the wire guide. In order to move on the outer end, the wire therefore needs a more accentuated guide than on the other end. The depth of the thread at the outer end should therefore be accentuated. But the downside of a deeper net is that the wire rubs against the side of the net. At the end directed towards the yoke of the yarn guide, the guiding does not need to be so important. The depth of the thread can therefore be less in order to avoid the friction in question as much as possible at this point. In addition, because of this friction, the thread of the outer end also has advantageously rounded tops.
The sequence of operations performed by this device is as follows: the end of the wire 5 is placed on the end 6 of the spindle 2 then the drive mechanism of the spindle 2 is engaged. Then the wire 5 is placed in the net 7, the axis 1 1 still remaining stationary. At this moment the operator leaves the machine to itself. When the spindle 2 reaches its rotational speed, the drawing speed is the right one and the desired wire thickness is then obtained. In the meantime, a certain amount of wire of unusable diameter will have wound up on end 6 of spindle 2. The operator will no longer be threatened by the possible bursting due to the size of the wire because it is no longer in the immediate vicinity of the machine.
When the spindle 2 reaches its rotational speed, the rotation and reciprocation of the thread guide as well as the members which are attached to it via the axis 1 1 are automatically caused. The rotation will be relatively fast while the back and forth will be, in comparison, quite slow. By rotation, the net with which the sleeve 8 is provided brings the thread 5 onto the yoke 9 of the thread guide, which grips the thread and then ensures the guiding of the thread and, consequently, the winding of the thread plate 4 .
The automatic engagement of the rotation and reciprocation of the thread guide is done as follows:
The spindle reaches the nominal number of revolutions approximately 7 to 8 sec. after switching on its drive motor. A time relay is actuated at the same time as the spindle drive motor. This time relay is adjusted to a time of 10 sec. about. When the spindle has therefore reached the nominal number of revolutions with certainty, the relay is activated. It activates the wire guide motor contactor and the wire guide starts. The wire guide motor drives the shaft carrying the wire guide. The second end of the wire guide motor shaft controls a reduction gear train whose output shaft carries a cam.
The thread guide drive motor, thread guide shaft and reducer are all mounted on a guided frame parallel to the thread guide shaft. The cam remains in contact with a roller whose shaft is fixed to the frame in such a way that the drive motor of the thread guide, the rotating shaft of the thread guide and the reducer together perform a back-and-forth movement. is coming.
