Abstract

1,011,539. Cable making machines. TRAFALGAR ENGINEERING CO Ltd. Nov. 15, 1961 [Nov. 22, 1960], No. 40190/60. Heading D1T. A cable making machine, Fig. 2, has a pulley 76 from which the finished cable is wound directly on to a bobbin 54, the pulley 76 being rocked in a plane parallel to the axis 106 of the bobbin to traverse, the cable on to the bobbin without sideways bending of the cable. As shown, the bobbin 54 mounted in a cradle 52 that is freely pivoted in a cage 43 such that the cradle 52 remains substantially stationary whilst the cage 43 rotates. The finished cable enters the cradle 52 through a rocker plate 72 that carries a haul-off pulley 74 and the pulley 76, the rocker plate 72 oscillating about the axis along which the finished cable passes through the rocker plate 72. The rocker plate may be oscillated by means of a traverse screw 121, Fig. 4, that causes a roller 130 to be traversed back and forth, said roller 130 extending into a slot 132 formed in a tail portion 134 of the rocker plate 72. Alternatively the rocker plate 72 may be oscillated by any other suitable device, such as a heart shaped cam. The strands 62 of the cable are fed into the machine through a lay plate 56, under a pulley 58 carried by one cage disc 48, and thence over a pulley 60. The strands then pass through a tube 64 to a pulley 66 on a second cage disc 48 and thence down to a pully 68 from whence they are drawn through the rocker 72 by the haul-off pulley 62.
