Abstract
753,086. Making wire ropes. BLAISDELL, S. B. June 8, 1954 [June 23, 1953], No. 16815/54. Class 109. Between each pair of flyer sections 11, 12, 13 of a wire rope making machine is positioned a rotatable tubular shaft 18, mounted in bearings 17, within which a wire from, say, the cradle section 25a, weighted at 27, passes through a guide 22, 48, 55, the portion 48 being tubular and the portion 55 being U-shaped and furnished with a plurality of grooved rollers 58 whose axes are positioned upon an arc of large radius. The guide 55, 58 is removable. The wire, in its motion along the bow 35 of the section 12 is guided by rollers 40 mounted in brackets 41 riveted to the bow, each end of which is clamped at 36 to a bracket 33 on the flyer plate 31. The bow 351 of the first flyer section is a balancer to the bow 35a along which the wire from supply 14 is led, being pulled by the capstan 15. Two wires thus pass out of shaft 18 and are guided about the cradle 28 of section 12 by two bows 35. These wires, plus that from section 12, pass through shaft 18<SP>11</SP> which is therefore provided with three guiding tubes and guides 55, 58. The section 13 has three bows 35 guiding the three wires about the cradle 28<SP>1</SP> while a fourth bow forms a balancer.
