Abstract

722,206. Rope-making machines. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. May 19, 1952 [Dec. 11, 1951], No. 12630/52. Class 109. A rope-making machine comprises a cradle 21 carrying upon a support 27 a reel of wire 28 from which a strand 33 is guided over pulleys 34 and 35, the cradle being freely mounted by bearings 22 and 23 upon shafts 17 and 18 respectively. A flyer 26 which may be semicircular, or as shown circular, forms a driving connection between the shafts 17 and 18 and a guide for a strand 30 entering through the hollow shaft 18 and over pulley 31. The strand 30 is led off the flyer over a pulley 32 and together with strand 33 is led along the hollow shaft 17 to a twisting head. A second strand may be guided along shaft 18 and led around the flyer in the opposite direction to the strand 30. The shafts 17 and 18 are mounted in bearings 15 and 16 and shaft 17 is driven from a motor 19. The flyer is formed of two pairs of steel bands 65 and 66 gripped by straps 42 and 33 and held together by clips 60, Fig. 5, which also support eyes 64 for guiding the strands. The reel 28 is provided with a brake 29. Specification 722,207 is referred to.
