Abstract

602,307. Machines for making cables. CLAY, P. E. F. Feb. 10, 1944, No. 2503. [Class 109] In a machine for forming and twisting multistrand cable having a stationary bobbin rack and a rotary twisting head, the strands are drawn downwards from bobbins 11, over an electric stop motion device 14 operable upon strand breakage, to be constricted in the V-groove of a pulley 23 which is substantially coincident with the vertical axis of rotation of the twisting head. The strands are twisted at the pulley 23 and the twisted cable is passed once or twice round tension wheels 26, 27, over roller 28, and traverse guide pulley 29 to a take-off bobbin 30. The twisting head is driven from an electric motor through bevel gears and an axle 37 to which table 25 is fixed.
