Abstract

714,208. Winding wire. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. May 11, 1953 [May 12, 1952], No. 11980/52. Class 120(2) Apparatus for winding wire &c. on a rotatably mounted reel 1 comprises a pair of guide pulleys 6, 8, disposed on opposite sides of the reel 1 and adapted to be reciprocated in a direction parallel with the axis of the reel, the pulleys being so disposed in relation to each other and to the reel 1 that the wire 2 in passing from supply 5 to the pulley 8 via the pulley 6 travels in a plane substantially at right angles'to the reel axis and makes contact at point 11, through a short arc, with the turn last wound on the reel and tends to force it against the preceding one, the wire being led from the pulley 8 directly on to the reel at point 12 about 180 degrees from point 11. The pulleys 6, 8, which are grooved, are carried by arms 10 on a block 13 reciprocated by a screw 15 and guided by rods 14.
