894,190. Nickel-plating baths. HARSHAW CHEMICAL CO. Nov. 6, 1958 [Dec. 10, 1957; Aug. 25, 1958], No. 35629/58. Class 41. A nickel-plating bath contains nickel chloride, or sulphate or a mixture thereof together with two brightening agents, (a) an organic sulphonamide or sulphonimide, or sulphonate, containing aromatic or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon groups, (b) an organic sulphur compound having the group -S-(CH2)n-CN or -S-O(CH2)n-CN, where n is 1 to 4 C atoms. Examples of (a) are: saccharine, trichlorodibenzene sulphonamide; nickel or cobalt dinaphthalene sulphonate, thiophene sulphonic acid, diphenyl sulphone; sodium vinyl or allyl sulphonate, vinyl sulphonamide. Examples of the thio-alkylene nitrile or thio-di-alkylene nitriles (b) are: thio-di-propionitrile, 1,2-bis- (# - cyanoethylmercapto) - ethane, cyanoethylthiourea, bis-(2-cyanopropyl)-sulphide. Coumarin or coumarin derivatives may be added, and also buffer agents, e.g. boric or formic acid.
