Abstract

898,774. Nickel plating baths. HARSHAW CHEMICAL CO. April 4, 1961 [April 22, 1960], No. 12042/61. Class 41. A nickel-plating bath is improved by adding two brightening agents (1) an organic sulphonamide, sulphonimide or sulphonate; and (2) a compound containing the group where X is O = S = O or S = O, and having a terminal CN group. Symmetrical compounds of the type are preferred. The Ch2 chain may include an O, forming an alkoxy group in the chain. In examples, bis(#-cyano-ethyl) sulphone, bis(#- cyanoethoxyethyl) sulphone or sulphoxide are included. The first agent may be sodium saccharin, p-toluene sulphonamide, benzene sulphonic acid, nickel or cobalt naphthalene disulphonate, vinyl sulphonamide, or sodium alkyl sulphonate. Coumarin and substitution products thereof, anti-pitting agents, and wetting agents may also be added.
