Abstract
892,904. Nickel-plating baths. VILLETTE, G., and GLENAT, R. Sept. 20, 1960, No. 32233/60. Class 41. Acid nickel-plating baths are improved by adding compounds of general formula where Ar is a mono- or poly-nuclear aromatic radical, the radicals OH, COOR being in the ortho-position, and R is monovalent aliphatic radical, e.g. forming an ester, or cyclic or heterocyclic radical. Examples are: methyl or phenyl salicylate, salicyl salicylic acid, or methyl sulphosalicylic acid. Preferably the R group includes an unsaturated aliphatic radical, yielding compounds of the type where R1, R2 are hydrogen, or radicals; dimers of such compounds may also be used, e.g. the dimer of (o - hydroxybenzoyl) - 3 - methyl - 3 - butene-1. There may be added sulphonic acids, sulphonamides, sulphonimides or their salts with alkali metals, Mg, or Ni. The nickelplating salt may be chloride, sulphate, sulphonate or fluoborate.
