[Also in Group XXX] In a packaging machine, a bag 1 is made on mandrel 3 carried by rotary conveyer 2, and is transferred therefrom by stationary sleeve 4 to the horizontal position shown on transfer member 5 and is then transferred by said member to be received in the vertical position within receptacle 6 of rotary (or endless) conveyer 7, which conveys it to the filling station. The base 8 of member 5 is apertured to apply suction to the bottom of bag 1 the suction being broken when valve 17 strikes abutment 18 to allow the bag to enter receptacle 6. The latter is likewise provided with apertures 16 through which suction is applied from conduit 24 to retain the bag till the latter reaches the filling station. The transfer member 5 is operated via lever 10.
