Abstract
940,315. Packaging. ST. REGIS BATES S.A. Nov. 13, 1961 [Jan. 10, 1961], No. 40528/61. Heading B8C. An apparatus (Fig. 1) for filling valve bags 2 has a dummy spout 1 carried by a block 3 and the operator pre-opens the valve by placing the valve over the dummy spout. When the bag 2 has been placed over the spout 1 the cylinder 7 moves the block 3 to the position 31 where a gripper mechanism engages the upper comer of the bag whilst the cylinder 9 effects withdrawal of the dummy spout. The bag 2 is then moved by the link mechanism 16, 17, 18 and 19 on to the spout 6 of the filling machine 5. Fig. 4 shows a number of filling machines 5, 51, 52, 53, 54, with corresponding feeding tracks 11, 111, 112, 113 and 114 for the blocks 3 and dummy spouts. At the position 24 the operator places empty bags on the dummy spouts and the blocks 3 are moved by the ram 25 along the supply track 4 from which they are moved by the cylinders 7 and 9 to the filling machines and a return track 22 equipped with a chain conveyer. When the blocks 3 reach the operator's end of the return track they are moved by the ram 26 along the track 23 where they are again loaded with bags by the operator.
