[Also in Division B8] A machine for filling a container 6 includes: means 7 for vertically aligning a drum 5 with a conical funnel 2 having a spring-loaded flap 8 normally closing its smallest end; means 18 for securing the largest diameter portion of the funnel into sealed engagement with the open top of the drum; and a hopper 10 adapted to be fitted to the container 6; the funnel being fulcrumed at 11 to invert the drum and to engage the smallest diameter portion of the funnel with the mouth of the hopper. The drums containing pulverous material are brought to the machine on a roller conveyer 17 and attached to the funnel by means of a clamp 18. The funnel is then pivoted about the axis 11 by hand, or as shown by a piston and cylinder assembly 20, to invert the drum. As the funnel enters the mouth of the hopper, a fixed stop 14 mounted on the hopper opens the flap 8, and a finger 13 rigidly mounted on the funnel opens a second flap 12 in the hopper mouth. An agitator 19 is provided in the funnel to ensure uninterrupted flow of the material.
