Abstract

1286213 Cigarette tray-loaders PROGIND CO SpA 6 Nov 1970 [13 Nov 1969] 52954/70 Heading B8C A device for feeding cigarette-filled trays 19 to the hopper 54 of a packaging machine comprises a mechanism 3 for lifting a filled tray from a magazine 1 to a transfer mechanism 4 which comprises two containers 41, 41<SP>1</SP> adapted to simultaneously place a full tray above the hopper 54 for employing and return an emptied tray to thelifting mechanism 3 which conveys the emptied tray to a further magazine 2. In the magazine, the 1, filled trays 19 are intermittently advanced on a pair of endless belts 11 to a cradle 15 which is pivoted by means of a parallelogram linkage 16 and a pneumatic cylinder 17 to place a filled tray on the lifting mechanism 3. The tray is carried by supports 38, mounted on slides 32 reciprocated on guides 31 by endless chains 34, to the transfer device 4 where the tray is inserted in the container 41<SP>1</SP>. The end of the container 41<SP>1</SP> through which the tray is inserted is closed by pivotal flaps 46 whilst the other end of the container 41<SP>1</SP> is closed by a sliding lid 47<SP>1</SP> controlled by a pneumatic cylinder 481. The containers 41, 41<SP>1</SP> are connected by connectors 42, 42<SP>1</SP> to a shaft 44 which is rotated by a pneumatic cylinder 45 and is connected to a lifting-cylinder 53 by a linkage 49- 52. When the full tray has been received in the container 41<SP>1</SP>, the shat 44 is raised by the cylinder 53, rotated to place the container 41<SP>1</SP> over the hopper 54, and then lowered by the cylinder 53. The sliding lid 47<SP>1</SP> is then opened to allow the cigarettes in the tray to fall into the hopper 54, and a filled tray is placed in the container 41. The shaft is again raised, rotated, and then lowered, and the flaps 46 are opened to release the emptied tray. The lifting device 3 carries the emptied tray to a cradle 25 which is connected to the piston 23 of a cylinder 22 to carry the tray onto runners 21 of the magazine 2.
