890,591. Reciprocating pumps. BUDZICH, T.- Jan. 23, 1960, No. 2544/60. Glass 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] In a hydraulic pump (or motor) comprising a rotatable cylinder barrel 18, Figs. 1, 2, having a plurality of parallel bores 34 reciprocably mounting pump pistons 29a, and a fixed combined valve plate and pump cover 11 having suction and discharge passages 21, 22 opening into arcuate ports at the valve face to co-operate with ports 77 in the bores 34, the barrel is rotated by a drive shaft 54 through bevel gearing 55, 56 mounted respectively on the shaft and a member 27 connected by a universal joint 29 to the barrel. The member 27 is also operably connected through sockets 31 and spherically-ended rods 28 with the pump pistons and supports on ball-races 42, 44 a yoke fitting 46 swingable about the drive shaft axis. The yoke fitting is formed with gear teeth 64 which engage similar teeth on a pinion 65 rotatable by a handle 76 to vary the stroke of the pump pistons and hence pump output. The yoke fitting is rotatable so that the axis of the member 27 can lie on either side of the barrel axis to permit reversal of flow through the pump (or motor). As shown in Fig. 1, the bevel gears 55, 56 are of equal diameter to provide a 1 to 1 ratio. In a modification, the bevel gear 55 may be replaced by other gears of smaller diameter and the bevel gear 56 mounted for adjustment along the member 27 to co-operate with the smaller diameter gears to provide ratios other than 1 to 1.
