[Also in Group XXIX] A hydraulic pump or motor comprising a rotatable cylinder barrel 24, Fig. 1, splined to a drive shaft 32 and formed with a plurality of parallel bores 36 reciprocably mounting pistons 37, includes a cam-plate 43 rotatable about an axis inclined to the axis of the cylinder barrel to adjust the stroke of the pistons. The cam-plate 43 bears against a fixed cam-plate 54 having the same angle of inclination as the cam-plate 43 so that the angular displacement of the combination is half that of the cam-plate 43. In a modification, the fixed cam-plate 54 is replaced by a cam-plate 55, Fig. 4, rotatable about the axis of the cylinder barrel. In this construction, both plates may be rotated together so that on rotation through 180 degrees from the Fig. 4 position, the pistons will remain in their " no-stroke " position. This artifice allows flow through the pump or motor to be reversed. Steep angle cam-plates 551, Fig. 7 and 431, Fig. 9, may replace the cam-plates 55, 43 respectively so that to vary the pump or motor output between maximum and zero requires less angular adjustment of the cam-plate 431.
