Abstract
890,592. Inertia governors. BUDZICH, T. Jan. 23, 1960, No. 2546/60. Class 57. [Also in Group XXIX] An hydraulic motor comprising a stationary cylinder barrel 10, Fig. 1, a plurality of parallel bores 14, reciprocating pistons 16 and a cam-plate 18 rotatable by the pistons to rotate a load 26, includes a valve plate 30 controlling liquid flow into and out of the cylinder which is rotated by an independently-operated control 43 so that the speed of the load may be maintained in a fixed relationship to the speed of the control irrespective of the load. The valve plate 30 having the usual arcuate ports 35, 36, Fig. 3, is formed with an arcuate groove 60 which together with a pin 59 and a shaft 55 splined to the cam-plate 18 permits adjustment of the valve plate with respect to the cam-plate to vary the torque output of the motor. As shown in Fig. 3, with the principal axis 64 of the cam-plate adjusted at, e.g. 45 degrees with respect to the axis of symmetry 34 of the valve plate 30, the motor develops half maximum torque. On, e.g., a sudden reduction in load, the load and cam-plate will be accelerated by the excess motor torque to increase the out-of-phase angle between the axes 64, 34 and so reduce the torque output of the motor to match the reduced load and retain the speed relationship the same. The control 43 may be a constant speed control or programmed for varying speed. It may be either electrically, hydraulically or manually driven. On, e.g., a sudden increase in the speed of the control 43, the axis 34 will approach the axis 64 to increase motor output whence the cam-plate and load will accelerate until the speed of the load again matches the control speed.
