1330430 Reciprocating pumps and motors H MOLLY 8 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970 16 Dec 1970(2) 16 Jan 1971(2) 4 Feb 1971] 51776/71 Heading F1A In an axial piston pump or motor comprising a rotary cylinder block 132 in a pivotable cradle 122 and pistons 136 engaging a drive flange 118, drive is transmitted between flange 118 and block 132 through bevel gearing 162, 164 meshing in a plane bisecting the angle between the flange and block axes, and the pivot axis 150 of cradle 122 is located outside the axes of the flange and the block to enable large pivot angles and small cylinder dead spaces to be achieved. The gearing 162, 164 may be angled, as shown, or cylindrical, Fig. 6 (not shown), or formed on toric surfaces, Fig. 1 (not shown). The cradle 122 is linked to the housing at its pivot by member 278, Fig. 10, surrounding trunnions on the housing and cradle, gear teeth formed on portions of the trunnions ensuring a rolling action during pivoting, and passages being provided through the trunnions, as shown, for working liquid. The pistons 136 are of sheet metal secured by corrugations to the piston rod ball end. In Fig. 8, (not shown), two motors are coupled to a common output shaft. (For Figures see next page)
