Abstract

890,339. Valves. BERTHOUD ET CIE. S.A. Feb. 26, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6823/60. Class 135. A valve for controlling the flow of fluid comprises a central body 1 having an inlet 2 and an outlet 3 separated by a partition 4 and each having one or more apertures 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, leading to the outer surface of the body, and a casing 15 slidably and rotatably sealingly mounted in sealing engagement on the body and having one or more passages 16 adapted, in predetermined positions of the casing on the body, to provide communication between one or more of the apertures 7, 8 in the inlet conduit and one or more apertures 9 in the outlet conduit, any remaining apertures 10, 11, 12 being blocked by the casing, the apertures being so arranged that an appropriate axial movement of the casing will prevent communication between certain apertures irrespective of any rotation of the casing. The casing 15, which may be of a resilient material, is slidably and rotatably mounted on the body 1 and abuts a shoulder 6 formed on the latter. In operation, with the valve in the position shown, fluid is fed into the inlet 2 and passes via the apertures 7, 8 passage 16 and apertures 9 out of the outlet 3; by rotating the casing through 120 degrees, the small bore apertures 10, 11, 12 are brought into communication with the passage 16, the apertures 7, 8, 9 then being blocked. The passage 16 is not spaced equally between the ends of the casing so that by turning the latter end-for-end the apertures 7, 10 are permanently blocked. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the body 1 is provided with an adjustable stop 20 so that by moving it between two extreme positions the apertures 25 may be either blocked or open and by moving the casing in the other direction against the fixed stop 17 the aperture 24 may be blocked.
