890,256. Electric transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 5, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 33662/59. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXII] To reduce waste in making a shell-type laminated magnetic core for a fluorescent lighting transformer which comprises a T-shaped winding member 1 and two L-shaped yoke members 2, 3, the laminations for the three members are punched at 1a, 2a, 3a from adjacent parts of magnetic strip, protrusions being produced in each L-shaped lamination and corresponding notches in the T-shaped lamination. When assembled, each T-lamination 1a is reversed so that the notches 11, 12 increase the core reluctance of ballast winding 5 and the protrusions form magnetic shunts to decrease the coupling between the primary winding 4 and the starting winding 6. In another embodiment the notches are situated between the primary and ballast windings (Figs. 4-6, not shown).
