888,172. Piston packing; cylinders. BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc. May 31, 1960 [Aug. 13, 1959], No. 19154/60. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] In a fluid displacement device comprising coaxial cylinder and piston members 40, 50, sealing means between the members, formed as an annular projection of one of the members, e.g. the piston as shown, consist of a body of revolution generated by rotation of a shallow V-symmetrical with respect to the axis of the members, the apex 49 of the V being integral with the one member and the free ends 54, 55 thereof being slightly deformed by the other member and each having an edge 59 which makes circular line contact with the other member. The piston and cylinder are made of polymerized trifluoromono-chloroethylene or tetrafluoroethylene, the cylinder incorporating a liner 42 of glass or nickel-base alloy.
