Abstract

602,585. Sealing devices. STEVENS, A. H. (Jackman, H. E.). April 28, 1944, No. 8021. [Classes 122 (i), 122 (iii) and 122 (v)] A sealing device 24 made of soft deformable material, bears against the surface 10 to be sealed and has a block. ing ring 27, 28, such as split rings, fitted adjacent to it. Upon deformation of the sealing device by fluid pressure, the blocking ring is urged by a shoulder 32 against the surface to be sealed, thus preventing extrusion of the seating ring therebetween. The device may be used between two interfitting circular parts, as between a piston and cylinder, a piston rod and housing, or a cylinder and cylinder head.
