Abstract

887,500. Thermionic cathode constructions. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 15 1958, No. 32904/58. Class 39(1) In an indirectly-heated cathode having a heater 2 within a cathode sleeve 1 mounted on insulating washers 4, 5, and separated from said sleeve by a tubular insulator 3, the insulator projects beyond the cathode sleeve at both ends, and is retained in position by resilient means mounted independently of the cathode sleeve. In Fig. 3 this resilient means is a U-shaped spring 11 eyeletted to an extra support 12, the spring bearing directly on the upper end of insulator 3. The lead-in wires (i.e. 15) for the heater may have protuberances and/or short insulating collars against which the lower end of the insulator abuts. In the modification of Fig. 7 (not shown), the upper end of the insulator abuts against a rigid support, the resilient means bearing against the lower end, The spring 11 may be connected to a low-voltage electrode, to prevent its acquiring a static charge.
