Abstract
750,074. Thermionic-cathode tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 16, 1954 [Oct. 16, 1953], No. 26919/54. Class 39 (1). An indirectly - heated cathode 15 lies wholly between the limbs 18, 19 of a U-shaped support wire 17, one limb only of which is supported from the tube envelope; the support wire thus forms an electrical shield between the cathode and the surrounding anode when there is a high voltage difference. The heater shown is of folded form, the legs 32, 33 being connected by tags 34, 35 to the support wire 17 and a further wire 22. A lateral tag 36, which may be omitted, provides further support; and a tag 23 supports the other end of the cathode sleeve from the bend of the U. When the heater is a helix, Fig. 2 (not shown), only one bottom connection, to tag 35, is necessary, the other end of the helix being connected to the top tag 23. The diameter of the wire 17 may be equal to or greater than that of the cathode 15, so that the latter may lie wholly within the shadow of the limbs of the U-wire.
