Abstract

864,938. Thermionic valves. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 28, 1959 [May 5, 1958], No. 14301/58. Class 39(1). A thermionic valve comprises an envelope containing a main electrode assembly, supported at either end in rigid spaced relationship relative to the envelope, and a subsidiary electrode assembly having a shorter axial length than the main assembly, and supported in parallel side-by-side relationship to the main assembly, by an insulating strip secured to the main assembly. As shown, the subsidiary assembly 4 is supported by an arcuate mica strip 5, secured at its ends to flanges 7 on the anode of the main assembly 1, and by one of the discs 2, 3 which support ths main assembly. The strip 5 is spaced from the anode of assembly 1 by projections 10 to prevent overheating of the strip. In an alternative arrangement the main assembly includes a screen connected to the earthing pin of the valve, and arranged to screen the two electrode assemblies from one another, the insulating strip being secured to flanges on this screen.
