Abstract

878,549. Valve bags. SOC. FINANCERE DE LA CELLULOSE. Feb. 15, 1960, No. 5270/60. Class 94(2). A bag 1, preferably of polythene, is slit at 8 down part of its wall from the front edge 6 of the bag opening and a sheet 9, preferably thinner, is attached to the wall behind the slit by sealing it along the line 10 and along its upper and lower sides, the bag then being closed by uniting the walls and sheet. A feeding tube can be introduced through the slit from that side alone where the sheet 9 is fixed, at 10, and the sheet 9 acts as a valve flap. The slit 8 is between the middle of the wall and the side 3 of the bag, Fig. 5. Preferably a reinforcing band 11 is placed across the slit, sealed along lines 12, 13, 14 and along the sealing line which also closes the bag. The feeding tube can then be introduced under the reinforcing band, the ends of which are arcuate (16, 17) to facilitate insertion of the tube and to prevent the operator from tearing the band when lifting the containers.
