1,026,867. Cooking bags. BIRKEL-VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 43044/62. Heading B8C. A cooking bag for farinaceous products such as noodles is made from a thin, water permeable, flexible material and comprises two similar quadrilateral walls 10 indirectly connected together along two opposite edges by gussets and directly connected along the other opposite edges 14, 15, a handle 18 being attached at its two ends to the middles of said other opposite edges. The bags may be made from a transparent, perforated polyethylene foil tube which, together with a handle tape, is passed by opposed belts (Fig. 10, not shown) to cutters and a welding device which seals the seam 14 and attaches one end of the handle 18. The bag is then filled and the seam 15 is welded, thus securing the other end of the handle. When the bag is placed in boiling water the gussets allow the bag to expand as the noodles start to swell. A split 56 forms a tab 57 which facilitates opening of the bag. The bag may be enclosed in a carton provided with a window so that the contents may be seen.
