Abstract

1477477 Plastics bags IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Oct 1974 [7 Nov 1973] 51591/73 Heading B8K An empty plastics film bag has integral therewith an empty elongate enclosure 7 or 12 detachable from the bag by tearing, the bag and the enclosure being closed on all sides, the bag having a tear-line 3 at one end along which the bag wall may be torn to provide a mouth for the bag, and the elongated enclosure having a part of its wall preferentially rupturable to provide an aperture therethrough. In Figs. 1 and 2 the bags are produced by cutting a tube of plastics film, e.g. polyethylene, with a heated knife to form bead seals 4 or 10. In Fig. 1 a heat seal 2 defines an enclosure 7 which has perforations 5 providing a rupturable wall part, and the tear-line 3 enables the enclosure 7 to be torn from the bag 6 whilst opening the mouth thereof. In Fig. 2 the tearline 3 provides the rupturable wall part of the enclosure 12 and the tear-line for the mouth of the bag 11, and the enclosure 12 can be torn from the bag along perforations 8 between cross seals 9. The bottom of the bag of Fig. 1 may be gusseted. In use the bag after opening is used to line an insulated container in which yoghurt is prepared, and the enclosure is inverted about a thermometer to provide a sterile sheath therefor.
